Peacocking

Peacocking is a term invented by Mystery to describe dressing garishly to attract attention. Specifically, it focuses on accessories more so than actual clothing, and it need not be so wild, just something out of the ordinary, and must be congruent with your personality. It is meant to draw attention to yourself in some way, and the wearer should be prepared to defend it or work it into a conversation piece. It is, in effect, an item that is constantly making its own ice-breakers for you.

The term comes, obviously, from a male peacock and the way its prominent, decorative tail feathers attract the attention of females of its species.

For instance, Mystery himself likes to dress in strange ways with a mostly "punk" look. So with his baggy black pants and a black tank top, he'll "peacock" with a top hat, platform shoes, and goggles on the hat. However, other PUAs who might not have dressed so outlandishly, would do such things as wearing a white collared dress shirt that has thin pink pinstripes, and "peacocked" it with a bright pink necktie. Yes, the articles match and are dressy; no, not many men wear a pink necktie. That's the part that attracts the attention: just a little something that stands out a bit.

The gauge of how far one should go with peacocking is a sliding scale, but should fit with the person's personality, as well as fit in with the social climate in the environment the pick-up is taking place in. It's important not to stand out too much, because then it looks like you're trying too hard to impress people or get attention, which suggests inconfidence.
