Outer game

Outer Game is the general term for all pick-up strategies, the tips and tricks, the logistics of meeting people. This includes things like learning neg-hits, knowing good lines to open with, practicing body language, etc. It's the basic how-to and physical techniques you use. This is opposed to inner game, which is a frame of mind to be in.

For people who don't have much inner game, outer game is usually the first place they start to learn. This is because it's simpler for a man to pick up a logical system with instructions and simply follow a lesson, such as memorizing a canned opener. Knowing outer game does not improve inner game, and as a result, is not an immediate way to seem more attractive. However through practice of outer game techniques, over time and with some small successes along the way, it becomes internalized and natural, giving the user a feeling of accomplishment, which boosts self-esteem and confidence, which then lends to improved inner game. The strengthened inner game then further makes the outer game more believable and effective, and the cycle builds toward a man really having his game together all around.

Outer game is not enough to be a good PUA, but it's a good place to start. Just don't let it be the end.
